Millions of people have resigned themselves to the lot of living with hearing loss and its difficulties and dangers. The pity is that the loss was preventable and totally unnecessary. As hearing noise is the result of too much exposure. If the noise is louder, exposure should be shorter. The damage, then, is limited and the inner ear gets the chance to heal between exposures. A few levels of noise should not be exposed to ears. It is difficult to avoid exposure to noise when one is near the airport. For those who work in a loud surroundings, avoiding occupational hearing loss is a problem.
Trauma at workplace
Acoustic trauma is the result of constant noise at work place. It is, actually intense vibration that causes damage and occupational hearing loss. Sound waves are changed into vibrations and are amplified within the ear by the eardrum. A persistent exposure to these intense vibrations for a long tone causes physical damage to the inner ear. Hence the ears must be protected against occupational hearing loss.
Sounds, measured in decibels are dangerous in the ranges starting at about 90db. This is the sound level of motorbikes and snow mobiles. The environment is loud enough if your have to shout to a person at an arms length. It is the same if the ears have a ringing sound or experience rain after having the environment.
To suit all types of situations there are many ear plugs of different sizes and shapes. A few dampen all noise equally. All the plugs reduce the noise and allow the person to hear normally. He will hear all background sounds and other warning sounds like alarms or trucks backing up can be heard with ear plugs.
Workers get injured when they do not hear a warning. In the same way they suffer from occupational hearing loss. Wearing ear plugs do not help them much. If the sound dampening ear plugs do not suit, different types of plugs block certain range of sound more that others. If a set of ear plugs does not suit you, try until you get one that suits you and the situation.
