Despite many advancements in medical world, the exact cause or the risk factors that result in ischaemic heart disease is yet to be identified. So far it was only found that any attempted modification on the associated risk factors could reduce the relative complications of ischaemic heart disease.
Your two main coronary arteries that supply blood to your heart muscles sometimes develop a fatty deposit over the inner walls of the arteries and this condition is referred as Ischaemic heart disease. Due to this fatty plaque buildup within arteries, the passage will get constricted and consequently the blood flow will also get restricted. And the reduced blood flow to your heart will damage your heart muscles.
A slow process of reduction in blood supply will initially cause damage to your heart muscles and in the event of any abrupt stoppage of blood flow due to big block in blood vessel then the situation will lead to a condition by name myocardial infarction.
Ischaemic heart disease is considered as one of the major coronary problems that is responsible for causing around 35 percent of the deaths in men who are in the age group of 35 to 50 years. Though the percentage of death is slightly less in case of women, the women who are above the age of 55 years are more prone to get affected by this ischaemic heart disease.
The ischaemic heart disease in its initial stage never exhibits any symptoms and at a later date the disease will manifest as chest pains. Some of other symptoms are pressure in chest area, angina (radiating pain) and tightening feeling over the chest area especially after any physical exertion or exercise. Sometimes, the pain may get extended to left arm and neck area also.
Further, one should learn to understand the difference between angina caused by ischaemic heart disease and other weather related reasons.
Coronary Artery Disease and the Related Risk Factors
The ischaemic heart disease is a condition where your arteries will develop an unwanted fatty plaque build up and if you analyze the reason, then you will come to know that the presence of low density lipid proteins or a low level of high density lipoproteins in your blood is the main culprit for causing ischaemic heart disease.
If you are a smoker then the risk level will increase drastically. Hence it is better you quit smoking immediately without waiting for any doctor to say that. Further, if your LDL levels are high, then consult a doctor and get medicines for reducing the levels of LDL in your blood.
A good and right diet devoid of any fat, a good exercise and medicines to reduce your cholesterol can keep your ischaemic heart disease contained well within a limit, but in extreme cases of larger blocks, you may need to undergo bypass surgery for redirecting the blood through other route.
In order to control the ischaemic heart disease through diet, you can note to avoid fat and cholesterol in your diet and include food that are rich in fiber and other vitamins and minerals. In case you are overweight, a good exercise combined with a proper diet can reduce your weight and indirectly relieve you from the risks of getting ischaemic heart disease.
