An adult or a child is intensely debilitated by a sudden hearing loss. Young child finds it more difficult as that child is in the process of learning language, by hearing others. If the child cannot hear, learning language becomes very difficult. Even the adult affected with sudden hearing loss struggles. Having been used to hear every thing taking place around him/her , he is a fish out of water since that “luxury” is taken away. This will render it difficult for him to interact with his family or continue at his job and do things significant for the life of an adult. Many people, not understanding the sudden hearing loss, treat the sufferer very differently unnecessarily. That person requires help only in certain areas of life. He should be free to do as much as he can.
Illness- The cause
Children can suffer hearing loss through illness. Sudden high pressure in theinner ear and rupture of the ear drum is caused by a few fever related illness. A few more, damaged nerves and other delicate areas required for proper audition. If the hole or rupture in the ear drum is very small, particularly in children, it will heal generally. But this is rare, and other diseases cause damage that cannot be pin pointed and the quality of hearing hangs in the balance.
Hearing aids and cochlear implants are used mostly for treating hearing loss but some types do not respond to these aids and implants. Hence lip reading and sign language are needed for communicating to the hearing world.
Part played by Accidents
Besides all these causes resulting in sudden loss of hearing, accidents like head injury, skull fractures and other problems create irreversible hearing loss. Though unfortunate, it is a yet a fact of life which cannot be ignored by individuals. Most people take it for granted along with their eye sight and do not even think about it. The hearing impaired disabled could warn others of the significance of hearing and know a sudden hearing loss could be a detrimental change for life.
