I have heard many of my friends say that they are really frustrated when they feel an urgent urge to urinate, only to find that it is false and they are hardly able to pass any urine. It is not just this but they also experience pain while urination and some are really discomforted by the burning sensation and sometimes even blood that comes with the urine. I have also heard many say that they really feel embarrassed having to run to the restroom when they are in the middle of work, with them visiting the restroom so frequently that others at work glared at them with questioning glances.
This situation could seem quite familiar especially if you are a woman, for bladder infection or frequent urination is more common among women than men. Urinary bladder infection show up as acute pyelonephritis where the kidneys are affected with symptoms as upper back and side pain, blood in urine, high fever, shaking and chills and nausea, or as cystitis that shows signs of pelvic pressure, lower abdomen discomfort, and frequent and painful urination and as urethritis that causes burning while urination. Bladder infection that extends to the kidney is very serious and requires prompt action
Why do people get bladder infection and experience frequent urination
Bladder infection companied by frequent urination is caused with bacteria entering the bladder and kidney and multiplying further to cause complications. The bacteria could either enter the urethra or short tube from the bladder to the genital organs, or the bladder or kidney. However the most common type of infection is that of the bladder that could cause pain accompanied with burning while urinating with a need for frequent urination. It has been observed that women are more prone to urinary tract infection than men, the reason being that women have shorter urethra and bacteria can easily travel to the bladder to cause infection. ,which cuts down on the distance bacteria must travel to reach the bladder.
In addition bladder infection and frequent urination in women is promoted with use of some birth control measures like diaphragms and spermicidal agents. In addition sexual intercourse causes the bacteria in the vagina to be pushed through the urethra to the bladder. In addition women may push in bacteria back into the body with wiping from back to front after a bowel movement. Being sexually active could have good consequences to a happy married life, but being sexually active could also aid in bladder infection and frequent urination problems.
It is quite unfortunate to observe that the use of catheter to assist urination for people that have been hospitalized with neurological problems that makes it difficult to maintain control while urinating, those with paralysis and having other disease conditions become victims to bladder infection and frequent urination. Some babies have congenital urinary tract abnormalities that stop complete urination with the urine in the urethra giving rise to repeated bladder infection and frequent urination. Kidney stones and enlarged prostate glands could act as blockages in the urinary tract and cause bladder infection and frequent urination with urine trapped in the bladder.
Caused mostly by E-coli bacteria, bladder infection that could be accompanied with frequent urination could also be promoted in girls that have a common functional problem of vesico-ureteral reflux, a disorder where the urine has a tendency to flow backwards or refluxes back to the bladder and then to the urethras and finally to the kidney causing severe consequences and requiring surgery at times. In addition menopausal women experience bladder infection and uncontrolled and frequent urination due to fall in estrogen levels. A suppressed immune system as in diabetes could also impair the body and increase chances of UTI/bladder infection and frequent urination.
